Hydrophis today completed Pilot 1 of our new CO2 mineralisation technology, with the Q2 research program focusing on the precipitation of Mg and Ca minerals using desalination brine and bulk CO2. The team successfully commissioned and operated the new rig which has a brine influent capacity of 30m3/day. The rig operated well across a wide range of experimental settings and delivered 91% purity magnesium hydroxide and 66% purity calcium carbonate. We also tested brine concentration techniques, using a purpose-built nano-filtration unit fitted with Dow NF 270-4040 membranes, to understand energy consumption vs yield trade-offs.
